Peter Goodwin es el patriarca de una familia que odia a los Dillon desde que ambos clanes se enfrentaron en la Guerra Civil; pero surge un pequeño problema cuando su sobrina Sally (Loretta Young) se enamora de Jack, el hijo de los Dillon (Richard Greene).
